We are searching for a talented individual to play an important supporting role within the organization. The Mi’kmaq Employment/Training Secretariat (METS) is a not-for-profit organization which, coordinates and administers quality training and employment support to First Nation people across Nova Scotia. METS supplies labour market needs for all employers in Nova Scotia and/or across Canada that want to engage with METS for the labour market needs of Nova Scotia status First Nations. Position Title: Administrative Assistant Helper (Summer Student) Employee Group: Part Time Term Contract Hours Per Week: 30 Salary Range: $10.40/hr Location: 87 Millbrook Ave, Cole Harbour, NS Job Summary: The successful applicant will provide administrative assistance for the Mi’kmaq Employment/Training Secretariat. This position is a Canada Summer Jobs position open to students who meet the eligibility requirements of the program and will be 10 weeks in length for 30 hours per week. Starting in June, 2014, and ending August, 2014. Responsibilities: - Duties will include, however, not limited to: - Filing and reception assistance - Updating the METS website - Creating power points, brochures and other media documents as required - Taking minutes - Organizing meeting logistics when necessary - Other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager Qualifications: - Enrolled in a Post-secondary education program preferably with a focus on business administration and/or marketing and communications - Computer proficiency is required, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) knowledge and data entry skills, web page design will be considered an asset - Must be able to communicate effectively (verbal and written) - Must have good critical thinking, assessment and problem solving skills - Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, take direction well and work independently as required - Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal descent Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment; Attention to Detail; Lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; Bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; Walk, sit, stand; Repetitive fine hand movements.
