Advent Reflections: Monday, December 8, 2014 Whenever I have an upcoming meeting or presentation related to my work, I invest considerable time in preparation and anticipation. The same is true for commitments outside of work, when the outcome is important and depends on me. Given that, Im embarrassed to admit that I tend to spend more time preparing my family Christmas list than I do reflecting on Advent. But all of this changes for me during Christmas week. Most of my shopping is done, I take time off from work to be with family, and I attend the beautiful Childrens Christmas Eve Service at St. James. Surrounded by their dancing eyes and smiles of expectation, the children of our Perish draw my heart towards the simple joy that comes with singing the familiar songs, lighting the sanctuary candles, and reenacting of Jesuss birth. My heart opens to God and is flooded with love. Regardless of how we prepare, Christmas Day arrives. God draws us close, reminding us of the power of love. Jim Guy
