Advice Issued For: Goongerah, Bonang, Cabanandra, Dellicknora, Tubbut, Yalmy, Deddick Valley, Orbost, Bete Bolong North, Jarrahmond, Bete Bolong Fire Origin: 20 NW GOONGERAH Incident Name: GOONGERAH-DEDDICK TRAIL Issued: 06/03/14 4:53 PM This Advice message is being issued by the Department of Environment and Primary Industries for Goongerah, Bonang, Cabanandra, Dellicknora, Tubbut, Yalmy, Deddick Valley, Orbost, Bete Bolong North, Jarrahmond, Bete Bolong, Martins Creek and Sardine Creek. The fire continues to burn within control lines. Crews are strengthening control lines and blacking out the fire. There is currently no threat to communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions. Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads. The next update is expected by 5pm 7 March or as the situation changes. Many firefighting vehicles and heavy machinery are using roads and tracks within and around the fire-affected areas. Drivers should exercise extreme caution when using these roads.Delays are to be expected. Roads The Bonang Road north of Orbost remains closed to through traffic. There is authorised access only for residents and recovery services. Residents of Goongerah, Sardine Creek and Martins Creek must present proof of residence at the Traffic Management Points manned by VicPol. Owners or managers of businesses within the affected area and all others MUST get a permit from the DEPI Office at Orbost or Bendoc. Those travelling from Bonang to Orbost are required to take an alternative route such as the Cann Valley Highway. Yalmy Road and Pinnack Road remain closed to the public. Parks Closed - Snowy River National Park - Errinundra National Park - Lind National Park All roads within these Parks are also closed. People who are travelling, especially ahead of the Labour Day long weekend, are encouraged to plan their trip and stay informed. Many areas in Gippsland are not affected by fires. The region is open for business as usual, with plenty of beautiful places to visit, see inspiredbygippsland.au. Safety Information: Review your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, decide what you will do if the situation changes. If you have time check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions. If you are experiencing smoke exposure, seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024. If you are affected by fires in East Gippsland please register with Red Cross online redcross.org.au or call 1800 727 077. It is important for residents in fire affected areas or in areas where ash may have fallen on roofs to ensure that all rainwater from the first good rainfall is not collected as this may be contaminated by ash.
