Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co. of Newark teamed up with members from Exceptional Care for Children (ECC), to organize the 1st Annual Community Hero Day on August 6th, during Camp Sheldon at the facility. Exceptional Care for Children is a state-of-the-art residential healthcare facility serving technology-dependent children and their families. ECC provides long-term, transitional, palliative, and end-of-life care to the children, and is situated on nearly eight acres of property in the Newark area. Various organizations attended the event that was intended for first responders, and those that serve in the US military. Apparatus and groups on scene included Delaware State Police Aviation Trooper 4, Newark Police Department, New Castle County Police Mounted Patrol, New Castle County K-9 units, New Castle County Emergency Medical Services, New Castle County Emergency Communications, Delaware National Guard, and Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Co. The kids truly had a day they will never forget. Special thanks to ECC Volunteer Coordinator Brooke Minner for all of her assistance, Malin’s Market for the donation of food and drinks, and to all of those that helped make this event such a great success.
