Afro-centricity is a cultural ideology, worlds wide mostly limited to the United States and is dedicated to the history of black people. It is a response to the global racist attitude about African people and their contributions and revisits their history with an African cultural and ideological focus. We see Alice Walkar and Richard Wright as Afro-Centric novelists because of their ideologies and their background. Alice Walker in the Colour Purple describes the find traditional and customs of black culture which is being down graded by the whites Richard Right on his part in A Father’s law presents Ruddy as a national characters and a police man who fights to restore order in the society. Their experiences and their writings reveals them as Afro-Centric novelists because of their contributions on the blacks in the unite states. Also, the Colour Purple is Afro-Centric because women are upheld and the author fights for the place of the woman in the society. This is because they are left at the background as they are dirt and are not good for schooling but only for cooking, sewing and gardening. Celie gradually gains her freedom after years of unhappy marriage to Mr __ when he confronts him and curses him his years of abuse and abasement. She equally faces Alphonso for not given her motherhood by stealing her children. We find Sofia who does not take orders forms her husband Harpo and even his effort to beat her in to submission fails. Eventhough, the woman is being raped and beating by the men she is still upgraded. Alice Walk’s the Colour Purple is an Afro Centric Novel because of the language she uses which is the black vernacular that cropped up between the slaves and the slave masters. As such, the vernacular became the Afro-centric to the identity of the African American in America. So they use the vernacular as a way of returning to their roots. That is, why we find Celie and Nettie discussing in the vernacular through the letters written by Celie to God and to her sister, which brings out their culture and identity. Also, The Colour Purple can be seen as an Afro-Centric novel due to the high cultural values. Alice Walker describes find tradition and customs of black culture, showing that the status of black nation cannot be change in the United States of American where whites are in dominant position. Walker describes a large number of African customs matter, through black culture and national pride through folklore through residential traditional folk medicine. Folk beliefs and customs of patch work quilt making sewing, customs and tattoos which portrays women’s powers from productivity, Sofia thinks they should make guilt of diverse pattern to symbolise unity. Her depiction for folk love shows the love fore black culture and strong national consciousness. Black culture and national pride as a tool to combat criminality in A Fathers Law portrays the text as afro-centric novel because criminality is rising in Brentwood Park like gambling, murder and prostitution which is as a result of wealth and the quest to make wealth. This is because riches make them to act against the law that is why Ruddy promises to do his best to restore order and sanity for the society to gain cultural ideology and national pride. A father’s law is looked again as an afro-centric novel because of fatherhood. The presence of fatherhood is a major idea where the father is present and cares for his some and watches his moves which shows the cultural ideology of the Africans to like together and uphold their culture and identity. The father from a large perspective is jealous of the son and at the end of the father is destroying the son because Tom is caught with a gang of thieves and he has to face the law. A Father’s Law can still be seen from an Afro-centric point in that there is the aspect of racism in it. Racism here comes from an inclusive point of view where black people have been integrated to the system. They are not relegated to their jobs. We see Ruddy’s appointment as chief in the Municipality of Brentwood Park noted for gambling and prostitution. Wright had foreseen (pre-monition) that at one time blacks will be in the system occupying post of responsibility just like Barack Obama who is the president of America today as such he has shaken off the racialism and restored the social position of his nation, that makes him an afro-centric. Alice Walker and Richard Wright are seen as afro-centric novelists due to their ideals as they have in their works portrayed issues concerning the life of an African American. Presented by Marie Luma
