After 1 of Tomas pop warner games, probably when he was about 12 or 13, 1 of the girls who managed the team came up to me afterwards and said, Toma is a GREAT kid. Hes so polite. Hes the only one who doesnt throw the water bottles at me after the huddles. In reading Tomas handwritten letters from college coaches, in almost every letter, the coach starts out by saying, We think Toma is a great kid and will be an asset to our program. When you have a kid, your first thought isnt, Hmmm, I want to have an outstanding ball player or I want my kid to have a high paying job and drive fancy cars. Rather, your thoughts are I want to raise a great kid. Just got a REALLY heartwarming email from a highly respectable coach/mentor that reiterated the same message: Toma is a great kid; a man of few words. I cry every time...not because I think weve done such an impeccable job raising him but because I am beyond blessed and honored to be called his Mom. There have been, are, and will be millions of great ball players in this world but there arent too many great kids who will make great men. Choose wisely my friends...
