After 2 years in foster care Slick and Flicker are going home today. Please say a little prayer for them that their transition is an easy one. That their fear is minimal and they will know they have finally gone home. We had accepted the fact there was a possibility they would be here forever. That their emotional and physical special needs were going to be more than most folks wanted to deal with. Years of abuse and neglect can take a toll on some dogs and they show remnants of their past. Slick with broken legs that were never able to heal properly, part of his tongue missing and Flicker with an old break of her femur that was left to heal on its own. The physical healed faster than the emotional, for Slick especially but how far they have come indeed. In 2 years they have come full circle. They enjoy human interaction, play, toys and all the things that were completely foreign to them 2 years ago. They are going to a beautiful home with 2 fenced in acres, a pond of their very own and this year, their very own Christmas tree. They will not be separate but part of their very own family unit. I know once they have acclimated to their new environment, they are going to know they hit the lottery as far as forever homes go. Ill take pictures too while Im there so you can all see. Im dawdling here and need to get going and start the last leg of their journey with us. Wipe my tears and get my sh*t together because they will know and I dont want them to know I am so sad because Im not really. I couldnt be more happy for them, they are such sweet souls those two. I know we were just the Motel 6 stop on their way to the Ritz Carlton and we will miss them so much...... If I could only get my heart out of my throat. They deserve this. xo
