After 9/11 we learned that it might not have happened if various federal law enforcement agencies were talking to each other. It therefore seemed like a good idea to establish a Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”) to coordinate information and protect Americans from another attack on U.S. soil. It’s true that there hasn’t been another major terrorist attack inside the U.S., but the DHS is starting to take on a life of its own, one that looks as if it’s anticipating, not a single strike, but a big battle on American soil. In the next few pages, you’ll learn what the federal government is buying and why you, an ordinary citizen, have reason to be concerned. First, here’s what the DHS is buying: The DHS is buying bullets, lots and lots of bullets. Last September, it purchased 2 billion bullets, which is enough bullets to fight the War in Iraq for 25 years. The drive-by media, led by the AP, has assured Americans that the 2 billion bullets are just for training purposes. Hmmm. Does anyone at AP know or care that the purchase included at least 450 million hollow pointed bullets? And does any at AP know or care that hollow-pointed bullets are totally unsuited for training, since they are much more expensive than the standard bullets used at firing ranges? No? We didn’t think so. If the bullets are for a legitimate purpose — and it’s undoubtedly true that law enforcement agencies need bullets — why is the government telling lies to the media and why is the media repeating those lies to us?
