After Watching post after post on the crisis in BC: Avian Influenza. On all the Chicken Boards. Everyone is concerned with this outbreak. We are not sitting back in other provinces ignoring the situation. With some simple bio security steps. 1) No Visitors 2) Simple cleaning habits 3) Don’t feed wild birds just in case . 4)Clean water When looking at the graphic of the Virus a lot of what I saw were yeast cells. Yeast cells are fungal biology that has gone anaerobic. Anaerobic conditions breed bad stuff. You smell ammonia in your coop you need ventilation that is your first clue that you’re going anaerobic. I think that is really just a simple fix. Keep everything aerobic rather than anaerobic. Bad Biology does not grow in aerobic conditions. In a compost or soil conditions which most of our chickens roam around in. Manures including broiler barns ( they would have to be cleaned on the hour to keep bad bacteria off the manured floors.) Introducing a good mix of good biology to compete with the pathogens would be a simple solution. Acidic conditions tend to lead to lower ph. conditions causing an anaerobic system. A good balanced compost tea sprayed on the floors would encourage active bio control. We dont run out and Kill everything. WE find a solution.
