After a hectic day and not too excited about my diet plan to have a banana and a bowl of soup, I popped into Ban Chang to try out Papa Sing’s Pizza. Well, what a culinary delight this turned out to be! I had the cheeseburger with salad; the meat, which is freshly prepared daily, had a subtle flavour that I cannot identify but tasted scrumptious. I am told there is a secret ingredient...The owners’, the two Jim’s, are American and have lived here a decade. They kindly placed before me sample portions of a variety of pizza; they were oozing with cheese, baked perfectly by Papa Sing and each one sent my taste buds to extreme highs. Sausage and Black Olives which I didnt really fancy was a fantastic blend of flavours; Ham & Pineapple with thick tasty ham; Pepperoni with a high quality meat and a perfect hint of garlic; the highlight of the afternoon, the Taco Pizza! This I highly recommend, I could taste the freshness in the salad, peppers etc and the spices in the beef made me say “wow” out loud. I have had many pizzas in Ban Chang, Rayong and Pattaya, these have no competition having tried those today. Jim tells me that 35 years ago in Chicago, his parents owned a pizza restaurant and bought and bought a pizza sauce recipe for $500, so that’s the key to their success here in Ban Chang today. There is a very relaxed atmosphere, pleasant furnishings inside, the owners are friendly and great to talk and the service is excellent. They deliver far and wide in a Papa Sing Van and if you re lucky Jim will tell you the true story about the origin of Papa Sing; he’s real and here’s a photo!
