After all the amazing comments about Hairspray this week, I too would like to join the ranks of those who would like to say what a privilege it was to be involved with this amazing production. Why has it been so succesful? Well it is certainly not by chance or even by good fortune. After forty years of MDing shows, concerts and musicals, I have experienced something quite unique. And what makes it so unique when compared with other productions, is dedication and teamwork. We have taken ownership of the show. From the very first music rehearsal we have worked as a team. We have learnt all the music irrespective of whether we were a backing singer, played a major character or sung and danced in the chorus. We knew the show well and have backed each other up. Nobody has been any more important than anyone else and (to my relief) there were no prima donnas. Also our teamwork was backed up by an amazing teamwork from administrators, stage management, crew, props, hairstylists, costumes, lighting, sound and musicians - all of whom have worked hard under immense pressure to make this show work in just a few days. And lets not forget all the extra work Dave Emmerson had to put in on due to circumstances. So, my thanks to you all and I hope we can work together again in the not too distant future.
