After checking all colonies I found (1) all nucs that were started in mid summer look nice and strong. (2) colonies that were split mid summer look good. (3) colonies that produced 150lbs or more are the weakest, some with only 3 frame clusters. I believe this is due to mite numbers. Super large colonies breed super large numbers with nucs and mid summer splits going into winter much healthier and far fewer mites. This seams to be the price of treatment free beekeeping.
