After destroying a major portion of grass lands at the very origin - TopicsExpress

After destroying a major portion of grass lands at the very origin of River Kabani in Poockode hills of Wayanad district for constructing buildings for the veterinary varsity campus, the Vice Chancellor is now threatening to shift the campus to alternative land available in Palakkad. He is citing opposition of Forest Department. If alternative land was available elsewhere, why the veterinary varsity tried to destroy the grass lands and disrupt the flow into Kabani? Kabani is after-all source of drinking water for both wild and domestic animals apart from human beings. What kind of live stock development you have visualised by destroying the hills and swampy lands which formed part of a river ecology? Who will compensate for the damage already caused to the fragile eco-system of Wayanad by the veterinary varsity? thehindu/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-kerala/veterinary-varsity-works-raise-ecosystem-issues/article5206059.ece
