After failing to get Digital Performer working, I stumbled on back - TopicsExpress

After failing to get Digital Performer working, I stumbled on back to Ableton for now for my attempts at making orchestral pieces, but Im hitting some roadblocks, and theyre not technical DAW-focused problems... I really want to learn how to compose orchestral music. It would obviously help me in my quest to someday be a soundtrack composer of some sort, but most of the time I struggle to mesh and structure only a few elements together in my electronic works. Ive tried my hand at composing little cinematic pieces, but have trouble creating rich soundscapes, layering good instruments and sounds and writing suitable parts for each. I might be struggling because Im using sample libraries and not a real orchestra, but Ive heard artificial orchestrations and pieces that sound great just because theyre structured and written very well. Does anyone have any resources or book suggestions for instrumentation/orchestration for modern composing? I feel like I have great little noodly melodic ideas in my head all the god damn time, but I need some extra instruction and guidance to turn them into something.
