After finishing grad school I find myself $25,000. in debt and working an $11.00 an hour job. No complaints whatsoever, ever. I just wanted to share the five most important things I learned in grad school for those who dont want to spend the money... 1. Do what you love. In this fleeting life, above all else, do what you love. If you have to do something you hate in order to do what you love, do it. Even better if you can learn to love what you hate. 2. Care and pay attention! Mundane and extraordinary alike, the experiences of your life are the raw materials that every work of art is made of. To say that ceramics is the medium in which I work is a fundamental misunderstanding. 3. The friends you make are priceless; one of a kind treasures never to be taken for granted. As teachers, confidants, conspirators, rivals, and partners, amongst other things, I have no words to convey my gratitude. 4. Practice, Practice, Practice. Even if you are practicing not practicing, keep practicing! 5. Throw it all away, over and over again. Never tightly grasp what you already know, always abandon it for the question you dont yet understand. An answer is a noun, a question is a verb.
