KEEP DRIVING ! This time I have something about "driving" to think about. It is: “When you want to keep your headlights on, keep driving! Otherwise your batteries will go flat!” Anybody with a car has probably experienced this, and knows that it is not only annoying and time-consuming, but also very embarrassing when you leave the lights on when parking the car and your batteries go flat. It is something that can so easily be avoided. When we think about it, we all have experienced that in our spiritual life. We want to be ‘the light of the world’, telling other people about God and salvation through the blood of His Son Jesus Christ and are on fire for the Lord. Then we park our spiritual car somewhere and expect that our battery automatically gets loaded up while we are doing that. We take some time out and go and do something else. When we come back to the Lord, we expect that our spiritual car starts immediately and we are very annoyed when that does not happen. It is also very embarrassing for a Christian to be found with a flat spiritual battery. We have to realise that Jesus is the Vine and that we are the branches (John 15: 5a). We will only be able to use our spiritual headlights when we stay connected to the Vine. We cannot just park our spiritual car and walk away. We have to make sure that we stay permanently connected to the great Generator. He will give us constantly full batteries and only He will empower us to keep driving our spiritual car without our batteries going flat.
