After four years of having a Google news alert for chupacabra Im finally deleting it. Ive diligently looked at all the news stories, and by my back-of-the-envelope calculations 30% are related to fiction (novels, games, etc.); 20% is evidence-free, uninformed speculation about it; 30% are rehashed cases I investigated and explained months or years ago; 100% are non-chupacabras; and about 20% are newly-found and obvious misidentifications of known animals. Been there, done that, wrote the book, and moved on. If something halfway credible is found Im willing to look at it, but until then Im out of the chupacabra business.
