After going rantless for several weeks, I shared a baby-rant last night about those who imply that outdoor photographer/writers dont have a real job. Well, I think Ill let the hammer down tonight. Can someone please enlighten me why our court system finds it necessary to make a plea-bargain with someone who is obviously guilty of a crime. Ive heard its because our jail is full, and people have suggested time and time again how this process saves the tax payers loads of money. Well, were on the verge of having a bigger jail and I have an idea that might take care of the financial issue. How about watching your spending in other areas, and lowering the boom on these people who purposely go out and commit crimes. If a person is guilty then the penalty shouldnt be lessened just because they suddenly find it within themselves to admit their wrong doings.Theyre still just as guilty. I suspect that most tax payers would agree that we would be better served if our tax dollars were spent making examples out of criminals and keeping our streets safe, in lieu of practically anything else. As far as Im concerned, plea-bargaining with criminals is ludicrous, and the prosecutors who are willing to do this should consider themselves partially at fault when honest hard-working citizens are harmed by a person who rightfully should be behind bars.
