After my second child who was 2 weeks past due and just over 10 pounds my abdominal muscles were torn and stretched. No matter how many crunches nothing seemed to help. Finally I gave up and went back to my belly dancing. AMAZING!!! The stomach work, side twists and back bends did what nothing else could do. Unbelievable but my abdominal muscles grew back together and strong. I performed until I was four months pregnant the last performance at a country western club in Germany after that my little bundle got in the way for performances. Traditionally belly dance was done by women for women and certain dances were done to assist the woman who was in labor. Egyptian pharaohs were bored so they demanded the young female entertainers do more then just dance. That is were the acrobatic and gymnastic moves even juggling became part of belly dancing.
