After peeling off the layers of misinformation necessary to maintain the mainstream narrative of national security, from the likes of Chomsky, for example, I can see how JFK policies would have supported Aristide, in the impossible imaginary hypothesis of translated historical contexts without room for anything but the rightist ends of national security: The poor have long experience in creating a third way. They face death and death every day. They survive. In Haiti we have survived for hundreds of years this way. This may be a jarring notion for those who believe the poor are poor because they are stupid. If one believes this, one will always feel that the solution to poverty will not come from those who are poor. But in fact, if we are alive at all it is not because of aid or help from other countries, rather despite it. - JBA, 2000
