After several weeks of mourning and uncertainty following the tragic car-accident death of series lead Paul Walker, its now official: Fast and Furious 7 has a release date, and its right at the start of one of the most jam-packed movie seasons in recent memory. Star Vin Diesel took to his Facebook page on Sunday to announce the new release date for the seventh Fast and Furious film, directed by James Wan. Fast 7 was originally scheduled for a July 11, 2014 release date. According to Diesels post, the movie will now hit theaters on April 10, 2015. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the release date with Universal Pictures, adding that Walker will appear in Fast & Furious 7, but there are no current details on how the Brian OConner character will be included. The last scene we filmed together, Diesel wrote on Facebook, There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared... in the film we were now completing... the magic captured... and, in just how far weve come. News of the Fast and Furious release date comes after weeks of speculation and, frankly, skepticism about the fast-car franchises future following Walkers death in late November. Universal shut down production on the Fast film while it mulled over how to proceed in light of Walkers death, considering the actor still had several portions of the movie to shoot. The studios solution hasnt come to light quite yet, but its clear that theyre ready to move forward, with Walkers character still in the picture in some capacity at least. With its new release date, Fast and Furious 7 finds itself right at the starting line of the summer of 2015, widely considered one of the most exciting years for blockbuster movie fans in quite some time. In the weeks following the Fast sequels release, theatergoers will have films like The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Terminator 5, Jurassic World, Batman Vs. Superman and many more to choose from. Further, the seventh Star Wars film hits theaters later that year, around the holiday season. In other words: As if 2015 wasnt crowded enough, in comes Dom Toretto to bring a few more fast-driving guests to the party. We wouldnt have it any other way.
