After waking up from trying to sleep off a terrible headache this afternoon, I remembered I hadnt fed the lamb so I took him to the barn to get him acquainted with the other sheep in hopes he would learn to eat on his own. When I got down there I found a sheep in labor. Since I had never actually watched one birth a baby I sat down beside her and waited. I sympathized with her as she was experiencing agonizing pain. She moaned and gritted her teeth, tried to bite the wood on the barn and rubbed herself against the hay rack trying to get some relief but at that moment no relief was to be had. Finally I saw a little hoof start to appear. I rubbed her neck and tried to offer comfort that was not welcomed. So I just sat back down and waited. Finally she gave birth to her 1st of a set of twins. It was amazing to me that as she began to do the job of cleaning up the first baby that the labor did not seem as hard when the 2nd baby was born. She had a job to do and I guess it took her mind off some of the pain she was experiencing. Once they were here she continued to moan some but stayed focused on her babies instead of her own pain. It made me remember the pain endured during the birth of my own children. As soon as they were here the agony of the pain and even somewhat of the memory of how painful it was left when I realized at 2 different times I had brought a perfect little human being into this world. I immediately found an unconditional love that was unexplainable. To this blessing was later added 2 more to love even though I had not given birth to them. Theyve all grown up and Id like to say they remained the perfect little people they were at birth but since none of us are perfect, there have been times theyve brought us much pain. But at the end of this day, I wouldnt trade one bit of the pain to choose a life without them. They are all 4 a gift God gave us and I still love every one of them unconditionally. Thats how our Heavenly Father is towards us and if we are to be like him, then thats what we are called to do.
