After years of intense clashes, the two sides of South Dakota’s raw milk debate are trying to find common ground. South Dakota’s Department of Agriculture, backed by the Department of Health, wants to regulate raw, or unpasteurized, milk. They say the regulations, which include testing and limits on bacteria in the milk, will protect consumers. But a range of raw milk fans and producers say raw milk is safe and that the state regulations could shut down raw milk producers.
