After yesterdays Woody Allen it is hard to get serious again. But - TopicsExpress

After yesterdays Woody Allen it is hard to get serious again. But Ill try :) Two images today, both taken from war machines. The first is the view from a Japanese Zero starting the strafing run on Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1941. Look the the battleships lined up. Talk about bad intelligence. Its not even bad intel, its bad common sense. I dont see any planes on the runway but Ive read they too were lined up, waiting to be picked off. Notice the Japanese writing at the lower right? This must have been a military intelligence resource at one time. The second is an image from just behind the nose cone ôf a German Henkel HE 111 medium bomber. It is flying in attack over an unknown Polish city, 1939. Probably the early, first days of the war, in September. Although incredibly high tech for the day, Im sure, it seems so basic by todays standards. The gunner is strapped in with what looks like leather straps, and hes wearing a soft service cap. Lining up his eye with a site on the end of the gun. But really striking to me is the scene on the ground. It looks like my grandmothers neighborhood in Irvington NJ! Rows of wooden houses on residential streets. Probably days or weeks before people strolling down them on a nice summers eve. So we know both picture takers were the aggressors. Of course they were wrong. But wasnt the rest of the world equally as wrong for turning a blind eye? The US for pushing Japans hand by blockading its natural resources wants, and the British for foolishly stating Peace in our time? Lets not do this again. But lets not let it be done to us. If not for us, at least for the memories of those we loved and the hopes of those yet to come.
