Courts in several of these states have held that the protection afforded under these statutes is limited to the decriminalization of marijuana. Therefore, some courts have generally upheld employers’ right to discipline employees, including terminating their employment, when the employees’ marijuana use violates drug-free workplace policies -- but then again, some states are the exact opposite: bit.ly/1stEGiY When an insurance agency finally agreed earlier this year to settle a lawsuit with an elderly California man, he probably expected that his payout would come in the form of a check, or perhaps even in an envelope of cash.
