Afternoon, everyone! Hope your week is going well so far. A quick note from us at Kotaku... A while back our editor-in-chief composed a note about brutal comments and a Kotaku for everyone. Weve been encouraging smart discussions--including dissenting opinions!--instead of attacks and rage. Thoughtfulness instead of brashness. Weve made it official that we wont be tolerating hate speech or trolls. We wanted the discussions on our posts to welcome more readers to engage. And you know what? Its been working. The experience of reading Kotaku is better than it has been in years. I want the same for our Facebook community. Its been my recent intention to have more of an involvement here on this page, and I hope youve already seen some improvements and enjoyed the extra company. But going forward, I will be adopting a similar attitude to the comments here as we have been doing on Kotaku proper. Any hate speech will be met with bans. Trolls will be hidden. And, please remember, while gaming is our teams first love, Kotaku is not just about video games. Its about gamer culture and things we think gamers will care about. And at night, Kotaku East presents other pop culture from Japan, China and Korea in addition to gaming topics. We hope youll all find some stories to enjoy at some point of the day, whether its an informative long-read, an amusing image, a review about a game youre unsure about, or whatever else. Well always work hard to get you all the gaming news that we believe is worth running, but we like to run editorials, fun videos, and everything else we enjoy in between, too. That said, were capable of having smart and fun discussions here, too. We all share the same hobby. So lets not tear each other to shreds because we have different opinions. Lets consider being openminded and, most important, consider whether you could sit across from someone, face-to-face, and have them read your comment and still consider it fair. Ive seen our community here be fair. Ive seen us be tolerant and considerate and not jump to insults, accusations, or hateful speech. Ive seen us consider multiple sides to a situation and weigh them both before commenting and Ive read many comments that have made me laugh. If we can do more of that, well all be the better for it. - Tina and the Kotaku team
