Again, I can totally relate to this. When I joined teaching, I was gullible enough to think that by just being a good classroom teacher, by being a good lesson deliverer, and by having great rapport with my kids, I would be appreciated by the schools management. How wrong I was. Yes, I achieved what Ive perceived to be a good teacher. But to the management, it was never enough. Petty issues like me leaving on the dot to go to gym and my constant loud complaints about the unnecessarily long staff meetings didnt sit very well with them. You need to contribute more, I was told. So, I was tasked with things like organizing countless school functions. That was when it hit me. I joined the teaching profession to teach, why the hell am I doing all these stuff unrelated to teaching?! Why are people who are not better in their teaching skills than me ranked higher every year? And I felt that I was becoming a lousier and lousier classroom teacher because I was so tired and there were so many times I went to class just to get the lesson over and done with. As a teacher, I never will, and would never want to shortchange my students. 3 years after quitting the system, I still think that was one of the best decisions Ive made.
