Aging reduces stem cells ability to promote vascular network - TopicsExpress

Aging reduces stem cells ability to promote vascular network formation. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are known to promote neovascularization, which is the formation of new blood vessels. In this experiment, scientists from Stanford have shown that aged MSCs have weakened abilities to facilitate these processes as well as promote cutaneous wound healing. For this reason, it is speculated that aged individuals experience vascular morbidity and compromised healing. (Source: Scientific Reports) #aging #stemcells #msc
