Ah a relaxing weekend of golf in the sun and fun of Coachella valley.....or maybe in the Islands of Hawaii or for that matter the Qatarian desert....I sure miss being a touring professional golfer...Or I could be in Orlando ....@ the 68th PGA merchandising show....2500 exhibitors from Acushnet (Titleist ) to Zett ( a Japanese golf club maker).....I can still hear Sinatra croon oh the good life.....Getting old is certainly not for sissies....as my great Aunt Squeekie used to say @ 96...Elizabeth was one of my heroes in life ...went through 6 hubbies....mostly all of em retired generals traveled the world and beat Cancer 5 times living until 27 days shy of 100....Best buddies with Barry Goldwater...She painted ...traveled....lived like a Billionaire on only $200 Million....Paradise Valley resident... 6 handicap golfer @ the swanky Az. CC....BBC member in Newport Beach ...I would run into her in Paris ...Seville ...Tokyo....Milan....New Dehli....Auckland ...She was a an incredible lady of impecabile taste and a world class artist....Her mother Flora MayStatler my great great grandmother was one of the original Arizona land barons owned about 1/5th of the state ...the old joke in our family was Squeeky saved her cash and my grandpa Vernon left his to 7 wives.....Statlers and the Hiltons...I came up one generation short.....Any way back to the world in 2015....Are you ready for Super Bowl 49....Iam lets pump up the footballs ( Ha Ha ) and get those wily Patriots and Seahawks ready for a classic....Thats right I almost forgot ....thats next week...but this week we have the Senior Bowl.....College Hoops ....Coach K closing in on 1,000 victories and Pro golf all over the world ......Galaxy Sports and yours truly your Sorce for Sports promised you a hard hitting look inside the world of Sports and why individuals ....teams .....coaches ....CHEAT .....Hey dummies its because everybody loves a winner and guys and greats like Lombardi have quotes like Winning isnt everything ...its the only thing that matters....As a society somehow we as fans pull for the underdog but want to hang with the champions....We love the longshot but pay to be with the best of the best ...we all identify with the Alis.... the Palmers.....as golfers we can only imagine ourselves as the next Tiger or Phil ....Freddie Couples is what every guy my age wants to be...like a Bond character in the movies he gets the beautiful girls...drives the hottest cars ...plays baccarat in Monaco ...He is the George Clooney of sports ...his best friend and college roomie was ( Hello friends ) Jimmy Nantz ...What a life...!...He is as cool as the other side of the pillow..... Friends if you only knew the personal heartaches that Fred has overcome in his great career ...you would realize nobody gets out of this lifetime alive....The legendary Slammin Sammy Snead said it best....The sun doesnt shine on the same dogs back every day ...thats West Virginian for every dog hads his day and luck is like beautiful but fickle woman...they are prone to a change in viewpoints....and men....Now before I reveal too much let us get back to the main story ....Athletes and pushing the envelope to that very edge....Steroids ...HGH....Beta blockers ....putting yourself as aworld -class athlete in a place where years later you say wow ...was it really that important to be the greatest of alltime or could I have lived with being mentioned as one of the greatest of all-time EGO my friends coupled with the fear of failure and the realization that time stands still for nobody ....Strike fast.... strike hard take no prisoners and above all else remember nobody remembers who finished 2nd....Leo Durocher said it best ...nice guys finish last....I personally do not believe that but many sports people do.....Is it better to played with honor and be a champion than to have cheated and been a legend ?...For me ...whom the good lord blessed with a lifetime of talents I have seen first hand both sides of that question...at 27 I d cut your heart out in a New York minute for even a chance @ victory .....at 57 I would rather limp into obscurity than win at any cost...Seriously I would rather have lost than to win a tainted championship ....Too many hills on that lifecycle ....too many tears trying that one last comeback ....Pain is gain ....Champions sacrifice it all for the glory of what that moment of glory represents ..Men like Roger Staubach..... Nolan Ryan...Stan Musial....Walter Payton....Jack Nicklaus....Muhammad Ali....Franco Harris....Warren Spahn......Cheryl Miller ......Pat Bradley....these are menand women of great personal integrity andyes I know their are many more champions who exemplified great courage and tremendous character.....We need as a society and as fans to be steadfast in choosing who we make out to be our heroes....Our future athletes and youngsters should be aware of ideals like courage and humility and giving back or paying forward ....So Tom Brady and Bill Belichik ....you are champions .....my question is can you look in the mirror and say you are men of honor ....And if the shoe fits wear it ...This is your Sorce for Sports reminding you ...its not who wins or loses its how you play the game !.......For the Galaxy Sports Network this is Artie Sorce reminding you to stay tuned for the best bets on television in the wonderful world of sports this weekend ......
