Ahead of polls, village heads taking refuge in police stations =>Scores of Panchayat representatives in South Kashmir have taken refuge in different police stations ahead of polls on April 24. Taking the police advisory seriously, various village heads in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, Kakapora, and Awantipora towns have decided to stay in police stations. A top police official from District Pulwama told CNS on condition of anonymity that these village heads came to police stations voluntarily and the police did not call them. “They feel safe in police stations after the killing of three innocent persons in Tral town,” he said. Police has already asked these village heads remain vigilant and intimate local police station in case of any suspicious movement. Reports said that numerous village heads are feeling insecure in their houses and they have shifted to police stations. Ahead of polls in South Kashmir, various village heads from South Kashmir belonging to National Conference, Congress and People’s Democratic Party Wednesday announced their resignations. They include PDP Sarpanch Nadar Tral, Ali Muhammad Bhat, Congress Sarpanch Gulshan Pora Abdul Rehman Wani and another Congress Sarpanch Assadullah. Another National Conference Panch from Aaligund, Muhammad Hussain resigned on Wednesday. He told CNS that despite tendering his resignation, he feels unsafe. “I rue the day when I contested the Panchayat elections. I am not going to vote anyone as I love my life,” Hussain said. “Most of the Sarpanchas and Panchas feel insecure despite announcing their resignations. I am myself confused and feeling insecure at my home,” a PDP Sarpanch from Tral area told CNS after announcing his resignation. (CNS)
