Ahh, my little jumping spider .... I found this guy while sunbathing next to my parents pool back in early July ... actually, he found me when he landed on me (I presume he fell down from the leaves from the trees above)... After I brushed him off of me, he just hung around on the lawn chair looking at me (it is a weird thing, making eye contact with a spider, but it happens) ... I decided at that point to go inside and grab my little Canon rebel with the 65MPE (Im a Nikon girl for the most part, but got this combo for extreme macro). I thought he would be gone by the time I got back outside... he wasnt ... he was just sitting there waiting for me .... so I started shooting... with each click of the shutter and fire of the flash he would jump on to my camera ... I would put him somewhere else and he would do the same thing .... I decided that he would be a good subject so I put him in a cup and took him back to Michigan with me from my parents home in Ohio .... I kept him in an enclosure for a week at my house... tried to catch things for him to eat, even bought small crickets (decided they were too big for him) .... as chance would have it we were leaving for Tennessee a week later so I set him free in my garden, in a big patch of shasta daisies just brimming with food sources for him ... and again, as I coaxed him out of the container he seemed reluctant to leave, moving his arms, looking me right in the eyes (I dont even know what he was seeing, but it seemed like eye contact) ... eventually he made the leap to the stems of the daisies ... but he kept looking back ... finally he started jumping up and exploring the new territory .... It is bizarre the connection that I felt to this little guy, tiny, tiny as he was ... and darn if he wasnt cute!
