Ahmad Hassan, my Democrat opponent, withdrew from the November election ballot this week. Under Texas law, he cannot be replaced on the ballot, so I now have only a Green Party candidate running against me. Mr. Hassan, originally from Egypt, has, in his own words, lived the American dream and was running for office to give back to the community and country that have given so much to him. However, he decided that his candidacy would distract me from doing my job as county judge, so he decided to withdraw. I compliment him for his courtesy.
