Ahmed Deedats mental picture of God I see more and more Muslims - TopicsExpress

Ahmed Deedats mental picture of God I see more and more Muslims talking about the idea that Christians are not monotheists because when they talk about God in three persons, they allegedly have three mental pictures in their minds: one of God the Father, one of God the Son and one of God the Holy Spirit. When we hear this argument, the more experienced Christian apologists will immediately recognize Sheikh Ahmed Deedats statements. They are simply copying his thoughts on this matter. What Deedat did there, is invent a criterium which does not exist. And once him and his charisma had firmly positioned this make-believe criterium concerning the amount of mental pictures one should have of God, he played a counting game with the audience. He would start counting: one, two, three mental pictures: And if you say you have one mental picture, you are lying to me! What a lot of Muslims (and some dupeable Christians) fail to see, is that the criterium of needing to have one mental picture when you think of God inside your own mind, does not exist. Its not mentioned anywhere in the Bible or the Quran. There are statements in both the Quran and the Bible that God is one. But there is no reference to how us having more than one mental picture of God is somehow polytheism. Concerning the mental picture of Jesus Its true that many Christians think of Jesus the way he is often portrayed, with a beard, half-long hair and good looks at the same time. This however is social manifestation that has no Biblical grounds whatsoever. No one knows what Jesus looked like while he was on earth. No one. So to say the Bible is false, for portraying Jesus, is not a truthful remark at all. However, wether people do or do not have this mental picture of Jesus, this is not something you can link to polytheism at all. Again: Inside all our brains, there will be a different mental image of God, simply because we are all different people. Its not a viable argument to suggest our mental pictures are what make us polytheists. So lets not play the counting game any longer my friends, starting today. May Jesus bless you.
