Ajimobi dares Ladoja over N500m fraud The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has dared a former governor in the state, Rashidi Ladoja, to sue him over his claim that the Accord Party governorship candidate and others refunded N500m to the state purse through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Ladoja had slammed a seven-day ultimatum on Ajimobi within which the incumbent governor should retract the claim or face a legal action. The former governor, who also demanded N10bn damages, also told newsmen through his campaign Director General, Adeolu Adeleke, that the governor should be prepared to face imminent defeat in next month election rather than resorting to “cheap blackmail.” But Ajimobi insisted on Sunday that Ladoja and some former officials of the government refunded the N500m as a form of plea bargaining to get off the EFCC hook. Ajimobi said, “Let him take us to court. The facts are there. Ladoja and his group returned N500m. If he is saying that he did not do it directly, he did it indirectly. And that is the fact. We are not fools to have published such facts. “We are ready for him to go to court. I will not apologise to him, rather he should apologise to the people of Oyo State. He should even just give us 48 hours and after that go to court. We are ready to meet him there.” Ajimobi’s party, the All Progressives Congress, in a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, also claimed that Ladoja and some others actually refunded the money and some vehicles. “With admittance of guilt by employing plea bargaining option over a corruption case against him, Ladoja stands unqualified to seek the people’s mandate. With his latest pranks in the mode of playing the ostrich after he had forced the state government to make public the damning evidences of his plea bargaining deal, he has a moral burden on his neck and by seeking to denigrate our traditional institution at all times, he has failed a simple challenge of ethics.” Copyright PUNCH.All rights reserved.
