“Ako, kailangan ko pang i-workout yung shooting ko. Again, mental din kasi ang shooting. At kung ma-shoot naman, siyempre, babalik din ang kumpiyansa ko,”-James Yap ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- JAMES Yap was quick to allay fears of fans after San Migs dismal season debut, putting the blame on the Mixers lack of practice time after their Governors Cup title run. San Mig had less than a week of practice prior to their opening-day game against Barangay Ginebra and it showed in its performance, skidding to a 69-86 defeat after fading badly in the second half. Yap typified the Mixers struggles, making just four of 14 shots and finishing with eight points as he carried over his poor shooting performance from last season. “Siyempre, nandun pa rin yung wala pa sa timing. Kahit shooting ko wala pa sa timing, tapos marami rin kaming mga bago at nag-a-adjust pa,” said the acknowledged face of the franchise. Still, the two-time league MVP was the first to assure that the Ginebra loss was no more than a minor hiccup for San Mig, which he expects to hit form as the tournament wears on. Yap specifically pointed to the arrival of top rookies like Ian Sangalang, Isaac Holstein, and Justin Melton as reason enough for San Mig to be optimistic about the new season. “Okay lang kami, basta ang importante lalaban kami, saka magaling din naman ang mga rookies na kinuha namin eh,” Yap told Spin.ph. As for his own struggles, the pride of Escalante, Negros Occidental believes his shots will start to fall in no time. “Ako, kailangan ko pang i-workout yung shooting ko. Again, mental din kasi ang shooting. At kung ma-shoot naman, siyempre, babalik din ang kumpiyansa ko,” he added. Yap and San Mig will try shoot for its first win of the season when they tangle with bitter rival Alaska Aces on Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
