Alivia is 4 yrs old and when she was born, we were told she was going to be deaf, blind and mute. Alivia NEVER stops talking, she can see and even with her hearing aids out, she can hear us. We have no idea how she can be one thing on paper and another in real life, hence the reason I am posting this. We struggled in the beginning, struggled with accepting the idea that we had a special needs child. Struggled with how we would communicate with her, how we would live a somewhat normal life. Well look at the pictures that I just posted, Alivia is climbing a jungle gym ON HER OWN at school, and doing back bends with her sister, and kissing her boy BFF, Dominic. DONT EVER let anyone tell you what your child cant do. We still struggle with MANY things, but we have accepted and are educating our schools, friends and anyone else that will listen about CHARGE and Alivia! We treat and expect the same things out of Alivia as we do her older sister. I know each child has their own uniquenesses about them, but I firmly believe that the more we as parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends push our kids and show them they CAN do whatever they are putting their mind to, that they CAN and WILL show all of us. Alivia is living proof! I do fundraisers to help educate people on CHARGE Syndrome. I also do them because we see many drs in a year with Alivia, she has many special items that she needs to help her through a day. The swings, the trampoline, the rocking chairs, the compression suits, all things she needs or needed to help just get her through ONE day. We didnt do a fundraiser this year for Alivia, but we will continue to do them so that we can help Alivia as well as the Foundation. The CHARGE Syndrome Foundation has done SO much for our family. They have allowed an environment at the conferences where we can go and feel comfortable about a rocking child, a feeding tube, or a child making sounds that arent heard everyday. The Foundation runs on grants and donations, so we as a family of a CHARGE Child will continue to show our support as best we can! As a friend of Alivias and mine, would you consider supporting them? Have a wonderful day everyone!
