All it has ever taken to change the future is a small group of people. JP, Renate and Shayne are three such people. South African born JP Skinner and his Dutch wife, Renate Vink have been supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Southern Africa since 2006. They have a registered Foundation run from Netherlands – SOSA (Support Orphans in Southern Africa). They have worked incredibly hard with many challenges in getting the donations such as clothing and computers to Africa. Often they have taken three steps backward only to go forward again. JP has flown from the Netherlands with a donation of clothing for Atlantic Hope. He did not give up… I met JP a while ago. He came to visit laden with teddys. To me he was the Daddy teddy. JP is an extraordinary family man. He has lost his father and works as a Philanthropist everyday with his father’s memories close by. Behind every man, of course, there is always one good woman. Renate and JP forge forward together. They have a beautiful daughter Rene. Here they are as a family. Shayne, JP and Renate got together last year…now it gets unbelievable. One man, one bike, an epic story – one of bravery, guts, gruel and strength I will never comprehend. Shayne Rookhuyzen, left Cairo 3 months ago to CYCLE by himself, no support team, from Cairo to Cape Town to raise funds for children, including Atlantic Hope. I have watched and been updated daily on Shayne’s epic 11,000 km cycle trip through Africa. He has 332 km to go, 2 days left, 166 km per day!!!! This Wednesday 28th May 2014 Shayne will be home. We will be waiting at the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation for you Shayne. I am going to meet a man of steel with a heart of gold. To track his progress visit the SOSA website: sosasupport.nl/index.php/en/ Love, Marilyn x
