All members of the Penny family. I wish to express my sympathy at the passing of my dear friend Ted. Of all the people I”ve known, Mrs Penny and all her family, especially Ted, left the biggest impression for good on my life. I would like to explain why. I clearly remember the day I went to school and the Corker family said there would be several new children coming and Bobs said a boy would be in our class, but then the bombshell, They are Aboriginal! I rushed home that day declaring I wasn’t going to school any more niggers are coming. I knew no Aboriginals only what I had heard and we passed the camp outside Kojonup on our monthly shopping day. My parents convinced me not to judge till I met them. The day arrived. They came to our school. They weren’t dirty smelly with all sorts of sickness, But very well dressed clean and very well mannered. I soon found out they were better at cricket, tennis and all the sports. Especially Mal at marbles. And they were as good as us at school work. In fact Ted was soon in front of me. Yes, The Pennys became my best friends. The saddest day was when they left the district. I was thrilled when Ted went on to higher education, and accomplished such a high position. What an example for everyone else to follow.Yes! He achieved much more than I did. ( Phillip Bock)
