All my life, Ive been surrounded by people with straight hair. I used to straighten it, because someone told me in the 6th grade that I was actually pretty if I straightened it. Backhanded compliment much? Anyway, years went by and now I let my hair do whatever (mind you I put stuff in it to keep it from frizzing). But I also cringe still when I see how the ugly girl in all the TV shows and movies is the one with my type of hair, and they are the ones who are given a makeover. Like friggin The Princess Diaries with Anne Hathaway would piss me off as a kid because it enforced the straight hair is the only pretty hair thing. Now I have the Yakowitz hair phenotype; my dad always talks about how my hair is curly like my moms was back when she was in college. Hell, somedays I wake up looking like I just walked out of a rock video from the 80s. I still sometimes envy straight haired folks, because their hair is probably more manageable, but screw it. Natural beach curls 5ever.
