All of the worlds audiovisual heritage is endangered. UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2014 is today. We celebrate it at Cinema Orion today with a programme called Alice Guy and the Pioneers of French Cinema - Treasures from the Swedish Film Archive at Svenska Filminstitutet. The spotlight is on Alice Guy, with films of the great pioneer of the cinema since 1896. Lumière brothers, Méliès, Chomón, and Linder are also on display. Many prints are in colour, including the delightful recent discovery of a colour print of the Joly-Normandin film Le Coucher de la mariée (1896), one of the earliest erotic films. A wedding night, an impatient husband and a young bride with endless layers of clothes.
