All smiles heading to Texas! Tonight is yet another testimony - TopicsExpress

All smiles heading to Texas! Tonight is yet another testimony for why we are getting a DAD. This is why we need a cure. T1 Diabetes is so unpredictable yet predictable. With the excitement of bringing Maggie home, crazy highs and lows are predicted because the hormones released with excitement are competing with insulin. Tonight Diabetes did not let me down. Blood Sugar Highs reached almost 500 overnight before slowly dropping back down at 4:30 am with large ketones continuing. Normal is 80-120 Lydia has had to wake up 3-4 times tonight to drink a bottle of water each time. Another time to change her site. We arent out of the woods yet. The only reassurance is that a hospital is directly across the street. Lydia is my superhero. She doesnt let diabetes control who she is. Its just something she deals with. When she is up half the night, she goes to school the next day with a smile. We do everything we can to control Lyds diabetes. Ive learned not to assume a low is being corrected by a juice box or a glass of milk. A high isnt always going to stop rising and come back down with insulin. This is the unpredictability of type 1 diabetes. Night time is a parent and caregivers scariest time. Maggie will help us catch these stubborn highs and lows that just wont respond to insulin or glucose. In just a few hours Lydia will be united with her white furry guardian angel. Tomorrow morning is here!!! Its a new day...... We havent slept but stay tuned!!!!
