All the memories belong to the false self (waking entity or you), not to the soul, the innermost self, which is ever formless. The mind (universe) merges into the soul or the consciousness and remains not as the mind, but as the soul or the consciousness without the experience. When the soul or the consciousness becomes aware of its true nature, then there is no duality, it is the nondual existence, which is the ultimate reality or Brahman. In ignorance or illusion, one first forgets the soul, the innermost self, and learns to views and judges the three states on the base of the waking entity, which is the false self (ego) within the false experience (waking). All the memories belong to the false self (waking entity), not to the soul, the innermost self, which is formless. The false self (you) and false experience (waking) is dependent on the soul, the innermost self for its existence. Therefore, on the standpoint of the soul, the innermost self the memory is mere illusion, because it is based on the false self within the false experience.
