Allah (swt) declared that nobody can become mu’min, until they give up all shirk, kufr and taghout. You must give up before you take up, ‘laa ilaaha illallah’ you give up all ilaah first then you take up imaan in Allah exclusively, Allah (swt) says, “there is no compulsion in the deen, the rushd (the guidance, the deen of Muhammad) has become distinguished from the path of falsehood (deen of Abu Jahl), whoever disbelieves (gives up) in Taghout and then believes (takes up) in Allah, they have grasped the most trustworthy handhold.” [2: 256]
