Aloha! Weve received many questions regarding emergency preparedness for your pets and would like to help you prepare in case of evacuation. If an evacuation occurs, then various shelters around the island will open. If you are taking your pet to a pet friendly shelter, the pet must be in a crate/kennel/carrier. Currently, there are eight pet friendly shelters on Kauai: Central: Kauai High Kauai Humane Society (pets only, no people) East: Kapaa High Kapaa Middle West: Eleele Elementary Kalaheo Elementary Waimea Canyone Elementary & Middle Waimea High You should bring pet supplies with you to the shelter. Recommended supplies include: Crate/carrier Pet food & bowls Water Collar & identification Leash Cleaning supplies for crate (newspapers, poop bags, litter & box) Toys/treats Vaccine records Further evacuation and shelter information for Kauai is provided by Kauai Civil Defense at 808-241-1800.
