IM A NORTHERNER AND HAPPY - Dear fellow Nigerian, Im a Northerner and owe nobody any apology for my ethnic and genetic lineage. Call me what suit you without apology. Malam, Aboki, Mairuwa, Almajiri are my popular names that, in no way describe or decrease my net worth as human, much less a Nigerian. Closely observed, these are trades and traditions that exist even in your remotest enclaves. The only difference, Im respectfully aware and well enlightened about dynamics of a society not to blame you for living in tandem with these dynamics. Just as not all Southern/Eastern fellow Nigerians could be Emeka Offor, Ibru etc, so could not all my people be Dangote, Ndimi etc. Natural sequence of the dynamics of life arranged there must always be people made to serve and those made to be served. Im not foolish to deny you this luxury. You may not like my ideological preference but, it is my source of pride. Consider me a goat, bad for you. I consider you a good green juicy grass. Now, may be Im a monkey to you. Well, I rather be. Better than the banana you look to me. Oh yes! Im a liability for not bringing anything to the dining table. Still, I consider myself a desirable liability that produced the food on the table with my muscles even if we have to cook it with a buried kerosene you bizarrely claim ownership, that u never knew existed few miles beneath your feet until it was discovered and refined for you - a feat you consider worthy of chest beating. In your weird assessment of human achievement Im a loser yet, I belong to the regional family that supplied the best leadership under which Nigerians answered their names with pride. Just to remind you, the combined tenure of Murtala/Buhari was just about 3 years, yet their regimes unleashed a feeling of Nigerianess in each and every one of us so much that, on the day Gen. Murtala was murdered the whole country stood still in sincere mourning - crying the sad the passage of a gallant officer and a perfect gentleman that represented a new hope to you and me. Yes, Gen. Buhari still remain the yardstick being used to measure uprightness, integrity, honesty, nationalistic and pro people instincts and inclinations among leaders and aspiring leaders. You know Buhari - the gap toothed charismatic General with 12 million authentic votes to his name, dont you? Bring your hero to the scale lets weigh them for posterity to judge the loser between us. Oh yes! Im sorry I supplied the most maligned President Nigeria ever had. The man caged by the cabal - the Papa Go Slow late Umaru Musa Yaradua. Sick and caged as to give Nigeria some semblance of a 21st century modern nation by strict adherence to rule of law. He gave a damn and proved so by laying bare his worth before taking charge of the nations treasury and, undoubtedly he wouldnt have refused opening his pockets at the point of exit to prove there are no hidden $2m, $2bn or $20bn glued inside. Im not assuming. With certainty it would have been a replay of his character and actions as a governor played on a bigger scale. I dont give a damn that you supplied a Mugabe, Boukassa, Gnassingbe rolled in one to manage Nigeria, supposedly with my consent. One thing I will give a damn about though, is ensuring that no longer will I allow you ride rough on my back using an ethnic card in a pseudo-democratic arrangement. The idea of putting me on the defensive using pretentious and cunningly distorted history - carefully scripted to suit the feelings of some bigots is busted and over. Im sick and tired of you hiding your mistakes with my wrongs. From now on, it is every man to himself, the best brain for the nation or nothing!
