Alongwith a huge current account deficit, the country is also facing a leadership deficit. We need to ask ourselves a question? After so many years of independence, after so many governments having assumed power and ruled the country, do we have a capable leader who can steer us to stability and ensure a corruption -free government. Just as we have prerequisites for different kinds of job profiles, do we need to create a social agency which will frame rules for justifying the pre-requisites for such leaders. No doubt we are a democracy and we have freedoms of different kinds, but do we need to evaluate the current form of government. Do we need to enforce certain rules wherein a particular leader cannot become a PM for more than two terms? Do we need a young vibrant leadership instead of the current crop of old men who are ruling the country and refuse to vacate their places of power for the younger generation? If we need to succeed as a democracy, we need to ask some hard-hitting questions and ensure that the powers-that-be provide those answers.
