Also on this date, in 1957, the television series “Suspense” presented the hour-long episode “Four O’Clock,” directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Starring E.G. Marshall, it perfectly demonstrates Hitchcock’s “Bomb under the table” explanation of what sets suspense apart from surprise – almost as if he wanted to take the series’ name and define it for the viewers. The teleplay was based on a short story by Cornell Woolrich, who had also penned the story upon which REAR WINDOW was based. (Posted by Pat McFadden)
