Although I support Immigration Reform, I do NOT support what the President is proposing and especially how he is trying to accomplish it. It should NOT be done via Executive Order, nor do I agree that it should be done in comprehensive matter or that is should include a pathway to citizenship. I do however believe Immigration Reform is needed. It has been more than 28 years since the last major immigration reform. By simply punting and not addressing this issue, the problem has not gotten smaller, contrary. I believe Republicans can come up with reasonable and responsible solutions to difficult problems. I believe that any reform should NOT be done in a comprehensive matter, but in a series of concurrent bills. Border security should be first and foremost. Significant funding should allocated to secure our border. There needs to be a background check (we do not want bad people to benefit from this reform nor do we want them in our country), they need to pay a significant fine (they broke the law and they need to pay a fine), they need to be required to learn English, they need to be required to learn civics etc. Also it should NOT include a pathway to citizenship. I have no problem with legal residency or renewable work permanents, but NOT citizenship. Finally, in order to make sure that those individuals who are the bad elements of this community are not allowed to stay in this country not only should we deport them, but we also need to make sure these individuals are not allowed to work by strengthening our e-verify system and going after employer who violate the law. I know there are those who believe that anything short of deporting them all is amnesty. This is not amnesty. This is not a freebie. They will have to pay a fine, meet a series of requirements and will never become U.S. citizens. They will not jump ahead of those waiting to come here legally. The current system is NOT working and by doing what weve done for the past 28 years will not solve the problem. I believe this is a reasonable and responsible.
