Although brief, this is a very good explanation of how sociopaths operate. The concept of gaslighting is discussed, which is a psychiatric term that I only became aware of last fall. At the time, I was so emotionally affected by learning that a such a term exists that I wrote a lengthy paper on the subject. Here is how the article defines it: Gaslighting is a systematic attempt by one person to erode anothers reality. The syndrome gets its name from the play and films of the same name in which a murderer strives to make his wife doubt her sanity and get others to disbelieve her. Gaslighting is a form of psychological abuse in which false information is presented in such a way as to make the target doubt his/her memory and perception. Psychologists call this the sociopaths dance. It could involve denial or staging of strange events. This is Machiavellian behaviour of the worst kind. And anyone can become a victim of the sociopaths gaslighting moves: parent and child, in-laws, friends, groups of people including work colleagues. Another part of the article that I found very informative and even healing was the information on what the author terms apaths. I know two people whom would benefit greatly from reading and accepting the facts presented in this article. The lives of everyone they come into contact with would be greatly improved as well, particularly the lives of their own children. But even if said persons were to stumble upon it- say, through internet stalking- I doubt that acceptance of its veracity would be their reaction.
