Although its not located in Dadaocheng (大稻埕), but just north in Dalongdong (大龍峒), Baoan Temples story is worth noting. Cultural heritage sites within the historic areas of Dadaocheng & Dalongdong (both Datong District) and Monga (Wanhua District) are among the oldest in Taipei, and play an important part in preserving Taiwans complex history. Unfortunately, since such sites are usually not commercial properties and therefore are not directly profitable, not enough is done by the local and national governments to make sure they keep standing, leaving private citizens and organizations to oversee conservation efforts. It is therefore understandable that a government-sponsored conservation award could be seen as a slap in the face to a group that was unable to secure government support in the first place.
